31) Scarring Sight (Quote)

"There are some things in the world I wish I never saw..." -War Veteran

You (or a character you come up with) are a high school student who is learning about the Vietnam War, as well as other wars of the past. You (or the character) have the assignment to go speak with a war veteran. This is one of their quotes. Explain how they describe war, and how it may be different from the stereotypes/cliches that are common in Hollywood.

32) Wording... (Dialogue)

"I wish I knew what to say..." Marcus began.

"Yeah, I wish you did, too," Bryan replied shortly.

Take the position of either Marcus, Bryan, a bystander overhearing this conversation, or simply a narrator setting up the scene. For this prompt, try to focus on the exclusive dialogue. How are their different personalities being portrayed through what they say, as well as how they say it?

33) Covert Car (Dialogue)

"We've got someone tailing us, sir," she says, glancing out of the rearview window.

"Well, then... make them stop," he suggested casually.

For this prompt, focus on the setting rather than the dialogue. Use dialogue sparingly, and only to advance the plot.

34) Place of Paradise (Explantation)

The trees across the lake looked so peaceful in the gold, supper-time light.

Where is this lake? What is all going on? Assume that you only have one character to talk about, and they are the ones observing the lake.

35) Hidden... (News Report)

New Island Found Off California Shores

California is a very populated state, as most folks know. How has it taken so long for this new island to be found? Has this island always been there, lurking in the mist? Or, perhaps, has it somehow suddenly appeared?
